Phasebridge Inc. and Unitek Miyachi Corporation (UMC) announced today
the signing of an agreement whereby Phasebridge will license certain elements
of its optical component manufacturing technology to Unitek Miyachi, which
will, in turn, develop a standardized platform for true automation of
key fiber-optics packaging processes to commercialize the patent-pending
Phasebridge optical mount and process technology. This technology eliminates
the need for any post weld processes such as laser hammering or bending,
enabling significant manufacturing yield improvements over the current
state of the art. The Phasebridge optical mount technology lends itself
to use with laser welding as well as and other attachment techniques.

the photonics packaging industry by commercializing this innovative solution
for robust and cost-effective welding of photonic components. This technology
enables reworkable single laser beam welding of photonics components,
still with high final positioning tolerance and high production yield.

industry leading laser welding, materials joining, and process automation
technology will enable high yield packaging and manufacturing automation

UMC's fiber alignment and attach equipment utilizing Phasebridge's patent
pending optical mount technology, will debut at the 2003 Optical Fiber
Communications (OFC) Conference, in Atlanta, GA.
